History, Recreation and the Arts on the Scenic Schuylkill River

Downtown Pottstown is forging a new tomorrow, and the Pottstown Downtown Improvement District Authority (PDIDA) invites you to experience for yourself the businesses, educational institutions, and arts and cultural organizations that call Pottstown home.

Downtown Pottstown, with easy access from Routes 422, 724 and 100, is uniquely positioned as the commercial hub of the tri-county area. With Montgomery County Community College to the west, the Hill School to the east, and the Tri-County Performing Arts Center, Gallery on High, Ballroom on High, Dada Gallery and High Street Music Company in between, the business district enjoys arts and cultural programming typically found in larger cities. Pottstown’s Riverfront Park and the Schuylkill River Trail offer biking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and fishing to outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. And nearby Pottsgrove Manor and the downtown historic trail markers will appeal to families and history buffs interested in the story of Pottstown’s past, from the Colonial era through the Industrial Revolution.

PDIDA is a special assessment district that is responsible for marketing downtown Pottstown and attracting new businesses to our charming storefronts and tree-lined streets, as well as attracting visitors to our theater, art galleries, restaurants, financial institutions, and recreational and home improvement companies, among many other small businesses.

PDIDA is responsible for keeping the streets and sidewalks clean and helping the Borough maintain the streetscape – the lighting, benches and planters that say, “Welcome!” We also sponsor events like Super Sundays, select Sundays in the fall when the downtown is buzzing with activity, and Pottstown’s Hometown Holidays, where visitors can experience an old-fashioned holiday every Friday night in December with carriage rides, carolers, choirs, Santa, hot cider and one-of-a-kind shopping opportunities, all among the twinkling lights of downtown.

PDIDA administers façade improvement loan and grant programs, which provide financial incentives for building and business owners to beautify their storefronts. Funds are available now. For more information, go to the Façade program web page or call Sheila Dugan, PDIDA Chairman, at 610-323-5400.
